Travel Advice During Coronavirus

What do you need to protect yourself from COVID-19 while traveling?

Travel has become more complicated these days due to coronavirus pandemic.

If the necessity arises to travel after the travel ban gradual lifting in some countries – with strict health restrictions- then what precautions do you need to take to protect yourself?

Travel experts at our sister company traviators answer the question with some pieces of advice:

Insurance cover

Make sure you have insurance that covers the risks of flights stopping or canceling reservations, as well as medical insurance that covers you in the country you are traveling to.

You can add to the air ticket insurance to cover emergency situations such as canceled flights, or non-hotel availability if you are stranded in an airport or a city you have been traveling to or connecting through.

You should also check that medical insurance, covers you if traveling in a group, which increases the possibility of catching an infection or disease.

Adhere to public safety instructions

Do not neglect social distancing while at the airport

You must adhere to public safety instructions regarding social distancing and personal hygiene while at the airports.

Consider wearing a mask on public transport and when flying as well, and avoid touching your face. Try cleaning the seats or tables that you will sit on at the airport or onboard the plane with disinfectant hand wipes.

Check if the airline you travel with does not use the middle seat and leaves a safe distance between passengers on board. Do not assume the availability of hand sanitizer at the airport or plane, carry some with you, taking into account the limits of the quantities allowed on the plane.

When arriving at the destination, change your clothes as soon as you enter the house or hotel and send it immediately for laundry, or leave it in a separate place for 72 hours at least.

Be psychologically prepared for quarantine!

Many countries are imposing a quarantine on travelers for different periods, some of which could be for more than 17 days, even if you do not have symptoms.

Even if quarantine is not mandatory, it could be re-implemented depending on the situation changes. Some countries request the passenger to possess a COVID-19 negative medical certificate issued no more than 72 hours prior to the date of arrival and proof of medical insurance coverage. It is highly recommended to check all destination requirements before travel.

Prepare yourself well

Try to wear a mask at all times of travel

Countries make decisions based on daily variations in the number of infections and ways of the virus spreading. So you may get stuck at an airport in a country that you are connecting through. Consequently, you have to have the phone numbers of your country’s embassy or consulate and the emergency numbers that you can contact. You have to prepared for all the scenarios during the trip.

If you have any personal medical reports or recommendations before traveling, keep it in your possession, you may need it.
